This site came about due to our journey of learning more about numismatics and wanting to teach others about the hobby. We clearly see that while information about coins is readily available on the internet, not all of it is accurate, nor complete enough to help someone without numismatic training answer the three questions...
Unfortunately, with all the hype on YouTube videos and articles exclaiming "This coin is worth $180,000 and can be found in your pocket change!" people are left wondering whether they too have struck it rich with something odd in their pocket change. The truth is, those coins in the videos and articles are often ultra-rare, with only a few examples known in billions of coins minted. That being said, you can truly find valuable coins in circulation, something usually done by studious folks who really know what to look for. Did you know there are over 3,500 documented varieties in the Lincoln Wheat cent? Most are worth a few dollars at most, but a niche in the hobby is being able to identify these varieties, label them, and decide what to do with them. Along the way, one must learn how to handle coins, store coins, and examine coins without inflicting additional damage upon them. Learn to become a steward of the coins you handle so they continue to be the special prizes they are to someone else who may obtain that coin from you in the future.
The challenge for us is how to get those folks with the spark of interest to take the next step and learn enough that they too become part of a wonderful community of people involved in the many different niches within the coin collecting hobby. Niches such as hobby collector, high grade coin hunter, variety and error coin hunter, attributor, collectioin appraiser, wholesaler, coin dealer, Local Coin Shop (LCS) owner, bullion collector, or investor are just a few areas people become interested. Sometimes its as simple as someone wanting to search through coins to possibly sell just to earn a little extra money each month to help pay the electric bill. That last one is the one we expect holds the most among the widest audience. So, how do we teach them to be able to handle the coin, identify the coin, figure out the value, and where to go to turn it into more money than what it says on the coin?
We setup a panel of collectors with various experience levels to share their perspectives and evaluate coins that come to us live on YouTube! We get to learn together just like the tide raises all boats in the harbor, we all learn about different aspects of the hobby.
Many coins submitted to us are just well circulated and often damaged coins. In fact, when we tell someone their coin anomaly is just damage, the first response is quite often one of denial, because they have convinced themselves the coin is going to bring them out of their current situation financially. We certainly wish that they could have that happen, we often want to do the same, and many of us spend quite a bit of time searching, hoping to find or cherry pick a great variety. Its the thrill of the hunt, and finally capturing the prize that can be a once in a lifetime achievement!
Thank you so much for being part of this community. There are plenty of ways that you can become more involved. Join our facebook group, participate in the live YouTube streams, explore the panelist YouTube channels and blogs and we'll introduce you to things you never thought about or knew about coins.

When I was young, my grandfather collected coins, but like most adolescents, I had other things to focus on. In 2016, I happened to catch a YouTube video about varieties you can find in your pocket change. This video sent me on the journey I'm on now, coin roll hunting, collecting, learning, and teaching about coins! I dream about making a solid contribution to this hobby, so every day I follow that dream and do what is needed to improve myself from yesterday, prepare for tomorrow, and make sure I have the knowledge required when I meet the next coin opportunity.

Hi, my name is Paula Bluhm. I am a self-proclaimed “Coin Nerd”. I am a USAF veteran, a mother of 2, and a grandmother of 3. I am a late bloomer in this hobby. My interest in Numismatics started in 2016. Since that time I have dedicated countless hours to studying every aspect of the hobby with my main focus being The Minting process as well as Errors, and Varieties. My favorite coins to collect are Seated dimes and half dimes as well as 2 Cent. I also enjoy many types of Exonumia. You can find me assisting new collectors in many of the coin related Facebook groups. Education is key in this hobby so it is an honor for me to be a panel member on the Live Coin Q&A. I also have a Youtube channel appropriately named Paula Bluhm where I focus on Coin collecting education, and promotion of the hobby. Myself along with Shay Hoffmaster also do a bi-monthly community sponsored giveaway called The Big Show. Thank you for your interest and support because without all of you none of this would be possible!

I collected pennies as a kid in the 1970’s with Whitman folders. I got back into coin collecting in about 2008 and filled Dansco albums from Mint Sets. I sold my collection in about 2009.
In January 2019, I came across CRH’g for silver in half dollars on YouTube and then those videos led to other coin videos and I learned about silver stacking and varieties and errors and how vast the coin collecting hobby has become. I took notes and bought The CherryPickers’ Guide and Strike It Rich books. From these videos, I learned of the online coin reference webpages and continued my learning about coins. While CRH’g for silver and varieties, I started filling Dansco albums, again, with Mint Sets and Proof Sets.
I have grown from circulated boxes of pennies to BU rolls of Lincoln Memorial Cents and search them for varieties and errors and I have 10 new discoveries of pennies with CopperCoins, Wexler and VarietyVista and 4 new quarter discoveries with Wexler. Someday, I will venture into learning more about Lincoln Wheat Cent varieties.
When I find a variety, I keep one for myself and sell the duplicate finds on my CarlOmaha eBay store. When I find a variety that I cannot attribute myself, I ask around for help and if nobody else can attribute them, I like to submit them to The Big 3 online attribution services to see if they can find matches for my coins or if my coins will become new listings for their catalogues.
I am not in it to make a lot of money, I just enjoy when the coins that I find will have new, happy homes with those that desire and collect them. I think of it as if I am doing the searching that others may not be able to do themselves, but they love variety coins and love to collect them.
I find coin roll hunting and coin collecting as ways to pass the time in the evenings and on the weekends. I’m an Indoor Cat, so this hobby is great for me, all year round.
Coin collecting used to be a pretty, lonely hobby. Since the development of the Internet, it is not as lonely and isolated. So, many relationships can be developed in a very, short amount of time. I view this online coin community with a light-hearted attitude. I like to make fun and have fun while participating in the educational process both as a student and like some sort of “dysfunctional assistant substitute teacher”.
I won’t pretend to know something if I don’t know it. I won’t make things up. And I try to ask additional questions in order to provoke more thought about any other aspects of the topic at hand. I only like to chime in when the topic is something that I have become acquainted with. I have found that as I learn more and more, I am able to answer more and more of my own questions about coins.

Hey Live Coin Q&A YouTubers; Coins & Ghouls here I got into this coin hobby in 2012 living in a historical house in Kansas City with my brother. I was really into metal detecting and started searching the front yard. I dug up an uncirculated 1917 D Mercury Dime. After that I was hooked. I started collecting Morgan Dollars first; I started moving towards other denominations and building my collection. I would say my speciality is Lincoln Cents, Franklin Half’s, and varieties as a whole. I also enjoy the paranormal and checking out very spooky places. Happy Collecting!
